The only indication that it was still daylight was the ray of light that streamed through the filthy window, the scum had been removed from the glass by an equally dirty finger to smear out a smiley face in the grime. It had been illuminated into a shining face by the light of the sun and strangely enough it had been enough to put a smile on the only resident of the rooms face.
West stood by the glass of the window on a third floor ward, the beds behind him were empty, the curtains ripped down and scattered over the floor. Nearly everything had a layer of dust over it, not to mention the blood and other staining scattered over the once sterile hospital remains. His backpack had been dropped onto one of the beds and after a few moments of peering through what he could of the window he himself wandered over and dropped down onto the mattress. It wasn't exactly the memory foam and feather pillow combination he'd grown up lazing upon but it was the comfiest thing he'd relaxed on in a long time.
He'd fought his way through the streets in order to get to the hospital, though the hospital hadn't been his first destination it had become a good option once he'd been bitten twice and twisted his ankle in the process of escaping from a small group of Lessers. One of his knives was lost forever, buried between a Lesser's ribs as it had fallen on him. Luckily his pen knife speared through it's skull moments later and he'd made a run for it. Except his running was hindered by his ankle, so it was more of a fast paced limp.
When he'd come across the hospital though he hadn't hesitated in phasing through the wall and falling face first onto the floor within what looked very much like a receptionist office. Administration perhaps, there was no sign of any distressing events having occurred within the room. The desk and computer remained untouched but covered in dust and the shelving still seemed to have every book in place. He'd breathed a sigh of relief against the carpeted flooring and resolved to stay there for just a few minutes. However, after a painful itching sensation began on his bitten arm he knew he had to wash and bandage the wounds as soon as possible.
Though he was in no rush at all. In fact it had taken him over an hour to get to where he is on the third floor. He'd wandered through quite a few wards before he'd found one clear of the dead. Just the dead. He hadn't been unfortunate to come across a Lesser, only the deceased and semi decomposed bodies of people who hadn't had the strength to escape when Satan's minions rode over the earth. He'd spent the time to cover the bodies up, he knew he would never be able to give any of the corpses a proper burial but the very least he could do is cover them up. The world's full of enough dead, he and the rest of the living world don't need to see it when they come to what was once a place of healing.
There was a slightly selfish edge to it as well, he wanted to know if any of the bodies were salvageable for his own needs and hating himself a little more than usual he'd removed a strip of flesh from the arm of somebody he was sure hadn't been a patient but a woman who had come to the hospital not too long ago and unfortunately died.
He'd wrapped it in a ripped off piece of bedsheet and it was now that he was sat on the mattress that he unwrapped it and almost greedily ripped into the raw, slightly browned from age (and rot, though he tries not to think about that) flesh. He'd discovered in the past few years that his healing process always sped up when he ate long pig, he hated that his survival can be increased by his cannibalistic ways but at the same time his survival does mean an awful lot to him. He's too much of a coward to just roll over and die. The tingling itch of his right arm wounds began to get hotter and if possible it itched even more, but no scratch would soothe it, the healing process was increasing with every heavy swallow of his jaw.
Once he forgot about what he was eating it was incredibly enjoyable to just give in and fill his stomach. Unfortunately he's not exactly very aware of what's going on around him and after not coming across anybody or anything so far within the hospital he's kind of let down his guard..
